SMPS Recognizes Isaac Renteria as 2026 SMPS Rising Business Developer of the Year

SMPS is pleased to announce that Isaac Renteria, CPSM, has been honored with the 2026 Rising Business Developer of the Year Award. This SMPS award recognizes a business developer who demonstrates exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and commitment to advancing their firm and the AEC industry.

Isaac, who’s a member of SMPS Kansas City, is a national business development and marketing lead of freight and ports for GFT. He accepted the award during Amplify A|E|C, the Society’s annual conference, on July 28 in Las Vegas.

In his role, Isaac works to understand client challenges, connect the right people, and position his firm as a trusted partner long before projects reach the marketplace. One of Renteria’s most significant accomplishments has been developing strategies and defined goals for GFT’s national short line railroad and ports markets. The effort strengthened relationships, created new conversations, increased visibility, and expanded how the market sees the firm’s capabilities.

His client-first philosophy shines through a project that began with a simple inquiry from a private steel manufacturer. Through site visits, pre-RFQ planning discussions, and technical team alignment, Isaac helped secure a win and a new client. The experience showcases his belief that successful business development begins with trust, understanding, and a commitment to helping clients solve problems.

Beyond winning work, Renteria has played an important role in expanding how clients view GFT’s capabilities. He has helped position the firm as a comprehensive infrastructure partner, broadening awareness of services across planning, intermodal, site development, and waterfront infrastructure, to name a few. His efforts have contributed to stronger client relationships and expanded opportunities across multiple markets.

Renteria is equally committed to strengthening the profession. Within GFT, he participates in the mentor-mentee program, sharing insights on pursuit strategies, client engagement, and business development. He’s also a dedicated member of SMPS Kansas City, serving on the chapter’s Outreach Committee and contributing to sponsorship development and membership engagement. His efforts reflect a commitment to helping members build meaningful connections and experience the value of SMPS.

Renteria’s leadership is grounded in curiosity, integrity, and a desire to help others succeed. Through strategic thinking, relationship-building, and a deep understanding of markets, he has established himself as a rising leader and a strong advocate for the role business developers play in shaping the future of AEC.

Congratulations, again, to Isaac Renteria, CPSM, on being named the 2026 SMPS Rising Business Developer of the Year.
